Suspect arrested for Beachwood Mangroves armed robbery

It is believed the suspect has been linked to another robbery at the reserve last year.

SECURITY personnel have arrested the suspect linked to the robbery of ward councillor, Nicole Bollman, at the Beachwood Mangroves Nature Reserve in December last year.

Brian Daish of the Greenwood Park CPF said they believe the same suspect was involved in the armed robbery of former Durban North resident, Bart Fokkens.

The arrest came as a result of the City’s Security Management Unit who had eight security guards stationed along various points of Riverside Road over the festive season.

“The suspect was arrested a little over a week ago. He was arrested on the M4 as he was approaching the Prospect Hall Road turn-off. We had managed to find a photo of the man and circulated it to the various security guards and police and they had previously tried to arrest him when he was spotted in the area.

“We also believe the same suspect was responsible for the armed robbery of former Durban North resident, Bart Fokkens, also at the Mangroves reserve last year,” he said.

Despite the arrest, residents are reminded visitors going to the reserve could only do so by appointment.
