Man shot in uMhlanga dies in hospital

Two vehicles seen were travelling at a high speed on Umhlanga Rocks Drive when the occupants of one vehicle opened fire.

THE man who was rushed to hospital after the alleged drive-by shooting on Umhlanga Rocks Drive has died in hospital. This according to spokesperson for the SAPS, Brigadier Jay Naicker who added that a woman was declared dead on the scene when SAPS  arrived. Both victims were found seated in a BMW after the  shooting took place near the Douglas Saunders Circle on Saturday, 28 December.

Naicker said charges of murder are being investigated by Durban North SAPS.

“It is alleged that today at 13:20, two vehicles seen were travelling at a high speed on Umhlanga Rocks Drive in La Lucia Ridge, travelling from east to west, when the occupants of one vehicle opened fire at the other vehicle. A woman believed to be in her thirties sustained gunshot wounds and was declared dead at the scene. A man was taken to hospital for medical attention where he later died. The motive for the attack is yet to be established as investigations are on-going,” he said.

Paramedics rushed to the scene and stabalised the man with advanced life support intervention said spokesperson for Crisis Medical, Kyle Van Reenen.

“On arrival on scene two occupants of a black BMW were found seated in their vehicle having sustained multiple gunshot wounds,” he said.

The man had sustained a gun shot wound to his head, said Netcare 911 spokesperson, Shawn Herbst.

“It looks like they were engaged from the DSTV building and that’s where the suspects started shooting at them,” said Herbst.
