“I decided to get involved with the show because Christmas is a special time of year and we want all the families to get involved. I think there’s a lack of Christmas shows in Durban and this will be a really nice family outing. My favourite part of the show is the music. We’ve got a mix of music, it’s not just Christmas songs. There will be some Michael Buble jazz, children’s songs and a little bit of everything for everyone,” he said.

Joining the cast of singers is Pinkie Mtshali who began her career as an opera singer some 31 years ago.

“I’ve always wanted to do a Christmas show especially in Durban, my home town. The festive season is supposed to be jolly and the show delivers on that. We will sing all the songs the community knows and love. Singing heals my soul, it’s all I ever wanted to do. I started as an opera singer, but this is more fun. In opera someone always dies, here we survive,” she joked.

Actor and singer, Bryan Hiles will play the role of a summer Santa, translating the festive icon into a relatable character for South African audiences.

“Growing up in East London, Christmas for me was two chickens on a Webber braai and the day was spent in the pool, so summer Santa in baggies and a vest seems completely appropriate, because this is Durban,” he said.
