Fire ravages Sea Cow Lake settlement, destroying 20 homes

No one was injured in the blaze which lasted around 30 minutes.

MORE than 40 families have been left homeless after a fire tore through the Jamaica Informal Settlement on Triumph Road on Monday morning.

It is unclear what started the fire however 20 dwellings were destroyed in the blaze which started just before 9.30am.

Durban Fire Department Divisional Commander north Jesse Yasudas, said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

“Fire engines from Durban North, uMhlanga and Ntuzuma responded to the call for help and firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control within half an hour. Thankfully no one was seriously injured and there were no fatalities.

“We’ve contacted the City’s Disaster Management team who will provide assistance to the families affected. At this stage the cause of the fire is still being investigated,” he said.
