Motive for Sea Cow Lake murder unknown

The victim was shot several times in the upper body while stationary at a set of traffic lights.

GREENWOOD Park Police say the motive for a murder which took place on Inanda Road on Thursday afternoon is still unknown.

Capt Jerome Slater, spokesperson for the station, said the victim, a man in his late 40s, was stationary in his vehicle at a traffic light when the driver of a vehicle pulled up alongside him and opened fire.

“The suspects, using a white SUV, pulled up alongside the victim and opened fire on him. He was stationary at a traffic lights at the intersection of Sea Cow Lake Road and Inanda Road. He sustained several gunshot wounds to his upper body and was declared dead on scene,” Slater explained.

“We believe the vehicle used in the commission of the crime, a white Kia Sportage, was later found abandoned in Kenville. The vehicle had been stolen from the Pinetown area in September. At this stage we are still continuing our investigations and the motive for the murder remains unknown.”

A case of murder has been opened at the station.

Rescue Paramedics spokesperson, Garrith Jamieson, said paramedics declared the man dead on scene.

“The victim, approximately 49 years old, was found in his vehicle which had crashed into the barrier with multiple gunshot wounds. He was assessed by paramedics however he had sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased on the scene. He was alone in the vehicle,” he said.
