Durban North resident runs into history books

Luc Quevauvilliers recently made history by running every street in Durban.

IN April this year, local resident, Luc Quevauvilliers, set out to run every street in the City of Durban. The task, which equated to more than a 1 000 kilometres of streets, may have seemed daunting but the Durban North resident had planned to finish it all by December of this year.

He recently made history by not only accomplishing his task of running every street in Durban but also achieving it two months ahead of schedule.

Quevauvilliers’ final run in the Addington area involved a number of friends and residents keen to cover the last five kilometres and also raise funds for the Childhood Cancer Foundation of South Africa (CHOC).

“It was a great feeling having people join me for the last leg of my journey because so many people had been commenting and following my journey I thought it was apt to end the runs around the City by incorporating them. One of the added bonuses for me was seeing some residents be reintroduced to the city so to speak because not many of the running clubs go through Durban. I normally left the city streets for the weekend to allow other residents to join in and I think the reaction from the vendors and regular people just walking the streets was great to see,” he explained.

“I never saw the task of running the street as daunting but when I looked at the map of the streets I’d covered, that’s when I realise how much I’ve covered in a short period of time. I was using an online mapping system and it was so pleasing watching every section fill out after every run. I must admit though I confused a few security guards in quite a number of dead-end roads in Musgrave area because some of the roads were only about 50 metres long. So I would run past them, reach the end of the road, turn back and run back out on to the next road.”

Quevauvilliers’ next big project he said was getting ready for next year’s Comrades Marathon.
