Josh and co make a splash for charity

More than a 1 000 toys were donated to the ECR's Toy Story campaign.

MORE than a 1 000 toys were donated to East Coast Radio’s annual Toy Story campaign at last week’s ‘Big Swim’. The initiative, championed by Northwood School learner, Josh Crocker, who, for the past three years has swum several laps of his school pool to help collect toys for underprivileged children in government hospitals.

A talented swimmer, Crocker decided to use one of his talents to give back to the less fortunate.

He was joined this year by several South African swimmers as well as learners from various schools in the North Durban area. Learners from Durban North College, Northwood School, Danville Park Girls’ High School, Crawford Prep La Lucia and Northlands Primary School all swam laps of the Northwood pool in an effort to drum up support for the campaign.

The swimmers were cheered on by their supporters and East Coast Radio DJ, Danny Guselli, was MC for the event.

Crocker said he was pleased with the turnout and support of everyone involved in this year’s Big Swim.

“This was bigger and better than last year’s swim. The vibe and the atmosphere was great. I was totally blown away by the school’s giving back on the day and also to the South African swimmers who were incredible as well. The Toy Story campaign provides joy by bringing toys to thousands of children in government hospitals, children’s home and crèches across KwaZulu-Natal so my goal is to support that in any way I can. I will be adding a few more toys from my own pocket to add to the more than 1 000 toys collected on the day. I’d like to thank everyone involved in the swim and especially to my mum, Tracy, who has supported me wholeheartedly,” he said.
