Two arrested for shoplifting at Gateway clothing shop

The suspects were arrested after a prolonged foot chase through uMhlanga and across the M41 towards Cornubia.

TWO men were nabbed on Friday afternoon by members of Bidvest Security last Friday after stealing four pairs of jeans from a clothing shop at Gateway Theatre of Shopping.

The incident occurred at about 6.30pm.

Willem Goosen, Umhlanga Ridge Management Security Manager, said the suspects were chased on foot from the shopping mall to Cornubia Mall where they were eventually apprehended.

“The arrest was a combined exercise between our foot patrollers and the control room. The suspects had stolen four pairs of jeans valued at R1 800 and fled the store on foot.

“Once the suspects were spotted in uMhlanga we gave chase on foot. We lost visual of the men for a short while before spotting them running over the M41. We chased after the suspects before apprehending them at Cornubia Mall,” he said.

The suspects were handed over to the Durban North SAPS.
