Montenegro Honorary Consulate opens its doors

The consulate, located on Inverness Crescent, also saw Sihle Zikalala, the premier of KwaZulu-Natal, address attendees about building bridges between South Africa and Montenegro.

HISTORY was made recently as the first ever Honorary Consulate of Montenegro was formally opened in Durban North with various dignitaries and consul generals attending the opening. The consulate, located on Inverness Crescent, also saw Sihle Zikalala, the premier of KwaZulu-Natal, address attendees about building bridges between South Africa and Montenegro.

Vido Cavor, the honorary consul of Montenegro said he was pleased with the turnout and the response to the news of the consulate opening its doors.

“This is the first Montenegro Honorary Consulate and the only diplomatic representation in South Africa. Although it is based in Durban North, consulary affairs stretch across the country. Today was about introducing ourselves with this formal opening. My family and I were so pleased to have the premier of KZN, Mr Zikalala and the various honorary consuls and consul generals of USA and China attend the formal opening. We hope to cement ties with the province of KZN and the country as a whole,” Cavor said.

Zikalala, who was one of the guest speakers on the day, said he was humbled to be part of the occasion.

“As the province of KZN we are honoured to have the Honorary Consulate of Montenegro open its doors in Durban. This is a great occasion and I’m humbled to be part of the ceremony. We hope to continue to strengthen relations between the two countries,” he said.
