More than 10 injured in Greenwood Park taxi crash

The jaws of life were used to cut passengers from the wreckage.

AS many as 16 people were injured in an accident involving a minibus taxi on Mimosa Road in Greenwood Park at about 2pm on Thursday.

Kyle Van Reenen of Crisis Medical paramedics said they arrived on the scene at 2pm to discover that the driver of a minibus taxi had allegedly lost control of the vehicle while coming down the hill towards Chris Hani Road and crashed into an electrical box, leaving the occupants of the bus entrapped in the wreckage.
“Hydraulic equipment, including the jaws of life, were needed to cut the people free from the wreckage, while paramedics worked fervently to stabilise them on scene before they were transported to hospitals for the further care they required. The roadway remained partially closed for quite some time to allow  paramedics and emergency services space to work,” he said.
The cause of the collision is unknown and SAPS will be investigating further.
