City announces Springbok parade route

Thousands are expected to take to the streets of Durban tomorrow morning to welcome the Springboks when they embark on the Durban leg of their nationwide tour of the county. The parade will commence in uMhlanga at 8am.

NORTH Durban residents will have the 2019 World Cup Rugby Champions on their doorstep on Friday, 8 November as the Springboks paint the streets of uMhlanga green and gold. The Springbok Trophy Tour Parade will see the team show off the Web Ellis Trophy to the people of eThekwini as a gesture of appreciation for giving them undivided support throughout the World Cup, said eThekwini Municipality’s Acting Head of Communications, Mandla Nsele.

The parade will commence in uMhlanga, proceed to KwaMashu and to the Durban City Hall.

“eThekwini Municipality Mayor, Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda, the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal Sihle Zikalala and the MEC for Sport and Recreation, Hlengiwe Mavimbela will be waiting in anticipation to receive the champions in a true Durban style,” added Nsele.

The tour route will be as follows:

8am- uMhlanga, Centenary Boulevard and right into uMhlanga Rocks Drive. Turn onto M41 onto N2 to Curnick Ndlovu Highway offramp and right towards Mount Moriah. Turn left onto M 577 Route to Queen Nandi Drive and left to Amanzimtoti Road.

9.30am- Kwa Mashu Station, onto Malandela Road right into Queen Nandi Drive over M 577 Route. Remain on Queen Nandi Drive all the way. Right onto R102 Chris Hani Road. Left onto Riverside Road onto M4 Ruth First Highway onto Stalwart Simelane Street.

10am- Durban City Hall

11am- Parade continues along Anton Lembede Street. Right in Brooke Road. Right in Dr Pixley Kaseme Road toward OR Tambo Parade via Battery Beach Road

12.30- Moses Mabhida Stadium

Motorists and members of the public are advised that two lanes along Dr Pixey Ka Seme Street (West Street) will be cordoned off to make way as the parade enters the CBD.
