Water flows back into Durban North after major leak

Plumbers have repaired the leak on Burne Crescent.

DURBAN North residents have been left high and dry during ongoing repairs after a major water pipe burst in the area. This morning, ward 36 councillor, Shaun Ryley said there is a widespread water outage affecting residents in Durban North, Parkhill and Virginia.

“There was a burst pipe in Burne Crescent. The water department said they couldn’t isolate the burst so they turned the valve off at the Virginia Reservoir which caused a widespread area to be without water. High lying areas would have been worst affected due to gravity. As water was used the pipes became empty and those homes higher up would have run out sooner,” he added.

Plumbers have repaired the leak on Burne Crescent.

“The burst has been fixed and the valves have been opened so water will be restored soon,” said Ryley.

It may take some time for water to be restored to the whole area.

“Valves are being opened slowly to allow water back into the pipes. It will take a while for the water to come through but we have some progress at least,” said Ryley.

Residents can call 0801313013 to request a water tanker, a reference number will be allocated.
