Lace up for new Durban North run for the environment

The event encourages participants to take part in plogging, a combination of jogging with picking up litter.

MEMBERS of Enviro Fixers Durban North have urged the north Durban community to come out and support their first ever nite run/walk on Friday, 25 October.

“Plogging is a combination of jogging with picking up litter,” explained the group’s Carri Lambert.

“It actually started in Sweden as an organised activity combine running with picking up the trash you find in nature. The term comes from the phrase plocka upp (Swedish for ‘picking up’) and the word jogging. As this run/walk takes participants through the streets of Durban North, each participant will be given a rubbish bag to collect any bits of trash they see on the roads.

“We are really looking forward to the event and we hope the community come out and support us. This is a fundraising initiative by Enviro Fixers to raise funds for selected projects in the Durban North area. Already we’ve removed graffiti tags on various streets, transformed electrical substations with colourful murals and we’ve began removing alien plants through our ongoing projects. We are also working with the City to rehabilitate Bridgevale Valley in the hopes of turning it into a safe, green space for residents in the area to enjoy,” Lambert said.
