Charges withdrawn in uMhlanga hotel murder case

The 31-year-old woman arrested in connection with the murder of an uMhlanga doctor will not be charged by the state.

RAVINDRA Maniklal, the attorney representing the 31-year-old arrested in connection with the murder of local doctor, Melvin Naidu, said the charges against his client have been withdrawn.

The accused was scheduled to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Naidu, 51, was declared dead outside his hotel room at The Capital Pearls on the 13th floor last Thursday after suffering a single stab wound to the neck.

At the time police said there had been an altercation between the victim and the suspect.

Speaking over the phone to Northglen News, Maniklal confirmed the state would not be prosecuting the case.

“The charges have been dropped completely and the state will not be enrolling the matter,” he said.

It is understood the woman arrested in connection with the murder has been released.

Naidu’s funeral was held at the Clare Estate Crematorium earlier today.
