Woman arrested in connection with uMhlanga hotel murder

The circumstances leading to the murder are still unclear, confirmed Durban North police.

DURBAN North police are investigating the circumstances that led to the murder of a 51-year-old man in one of the hotel rooms at The Pearls, uMhlanga on Thursday night.

According to station spokesperson, Capt Raymond Deokaran, a woman was arrested in connection with the murder which occurred at about 8.45pm.

“The investigation is still at a sensitive stage but I can confirm a woman has been arrested for the alleged murder. There seems to have been an altercation with the victim and the suspect in one of the rooms at hotel. The victim was stabbed in the altercation and sustained a single stab wound to the neck. He was declared deceased on scene. A case of murder has been opened at the station,” he said.

The murder weapon was also recovered at the scene.

Garnet Basson, chief operating office, The Capital Hotels & Apartments confirmed the incident occurred at its uMhlanga hotel on Thursday night.

“The incident was a result of an altercation that occurred between two guests who checked into a room, and tragically resulted in the death of one of those guests.

“Emergency services and the SA Police Services (SAPS) were alerted immediately and we would like to thank them for their quick response and professionalism in dealing with the incident. Our condolences, thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the deceased,” Basson said.
