Man murdered at uMhlanga hotel identified

The 51-year-old victim who was murdered was a doctor in Durban.

KZN police have confirmed the identity of the 51-year-old man murdered at an uMhlanga hotel on Thursday night.

Melvin Naidu, a doctor by profession, was killed outside a room at the The Captial Pearls after suffering a single stab wound to the neck.

Captain Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, confirmed a 31-year-old woman had been arrested in connection with the murder case.

There seems to have been an altercation with the victim and the suspect in one of the rooms at hotel. The victim was stabbed in the altercation and sustained a single stab wound to the neck. He was declared deceased on scene. A case of murder has been opened at the station,” he said.

The murder weapon was also recovered at the scene.

Garnet Basson, chief operating office, The Capital Hotels & Apartments confirmed the incident occurred at its uMhlanga hotel on Thursday night.
