Homeowner’s son shot in leg in La Lucia robbery

The suspects made off with a TV and a sound system in the incident which occurred in the early hours of Friday morning.

DURBAN North SAPS are searching for three suspects involved in the armed robbery of a La Lucia homeowner and her family in the early hours of Friday morning.

The homeowner’s son was shot in the leg in the incident, which occurred on Shelbourne Drive.

Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North police station, said one of the suspects was armed with a firearm while his accomplices carried knives.

“The homeowner heard a commotion coming from her son’s bedroom. When she woke up to check she saw her son wrestling with one of the suspects with the firearm. Her son was shot once in the thigh and one of the suspects put his hand over the homeowner’s mouth. The suspects fled the scene with a TV and a sound system. We are still searching for the suspects and our investigations are ongoing,” he said.

Crisis Medical’s Kyle van Reenen confirmed paramedics attended to the scene of the crime.

“He was treated and stabilised on scene before being transported to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital,” he said.
