UKZN suspends all academic programmes for Friday

The suspension comes following the murder of student, Sinethemba Ndlovu.

THE acting registrar of the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) today suspended the academic programme for Friday, following the death of one the students.

Dr Kathy Cleland said the death of Sinethemba Ndlovu requires them as a community to ‘pause and reflect on the brutality’.

The 22-year-old Business Administration student had been stabbed to death last Sunday, allegedly by a man who wanted to rape her at a function at Msinga near the KZN Midlands.

A 20-year-old man was arrested in connection with her murder on Monday.

Cleland said the death of any human being is both traumatic and sad.

The circumstances around the untimely passing of our student, Ms Sinethemba Venessa Ndlovu on the 22 September 2019, requires us as a community to pause and reflect on the fragility of life, and the brutality that often exists in our society,” she said.

“All other University operations will continue as normal. Professional and academic staff are expected to report for duty unless a special arrangement has been made between the staff member and their line manager,” she added.
