18 arrested for drunk driving in M4 roadblock
The continual operations, held by the station in conjunction with Metro Police, have yielded positive results this year with more than 150 people arrested for drunk driving.
DURBAN North SAPS have once again urged motorists and residents to heed their warning of not drinking and driving.
This comes after 18 people were arrested at the roadblock along the M4, and charged with driving under the influence on Sunday evening.

Captain Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, said the station had held both daytime and nightime operations along the M4 Ruth First Highway.
“It is quite a damning statistic that more than 150 people have been arrested for drunk driving this year. We often conduct our operations on the M4 and the M41 because they are the main arterial routes going north. Despite previous warnings drivers have still been breaking the law. Being arrested for drunk driving is not a misdemeanour, it is a serious crime and a preventable choice,” Deokaran said.
