Ladies club springs up as women’s month winds down

The club is free and all ladies are welcome to join.

LA LUCIA resident,  Olga Jacob hosted a ladies club meeting as she invited guests into her home for an evening of finger foods, wine and fun. The night offered entrepreneurs a chance to showcase their wares and guest speaker for the night, Liezel Blom from Hermanus gave a talk about baby gym, which is fast becoming a trend.

“This came in handy for people like me who are hoping to have grandchildren in the near future,” said Jacobs.

The evening event was the third event hosted by the ladies club, which was revived this year.

“I started the ladies club in 1996 back in Johannesburg, where I lived. I moved down to Durban in 2003 and decided to start the club again this year,” said Jacob.

The club was originally inspired by the elderly who would visit Jacob’s flower shop in Johannesburg.

“There was an old age home nearby and the elderly ladies would come to my shop in their bus. I would try and give them tea in the limited time they were there and I realised they so badly wanted company,” she said.

“It is a social group that allows ladies to mix and mingle. We usually have a guest speaker as well,” she added.

The club’s next event, a motivational fundraiser for the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA), will be held on 18 September at a Durban venue to be announced closer to the time. On 26 October, the club will enjoy a morning of fitness training in the Midlands with trainer, Sandra Berning and on 6 November, a ceramic artist will give a talk at a venue that is to be announced.

The club is free and all ladies are welcome to join. For more information, call Olga Jacob on 083 326 2495.
