Grant bids farewell to Mvoti Neighbourhood Watch

Mvoti Neighbourhood Watch committee member and local resident, David Williams said Grant Cockburn's departure was a loss to the Durban North community.

MEMBERS of the Mvoti Neighbourhood Watch have expressed their sadness over the news that chairman of the watch, Grant Cockburn, has stepped down and emigrated to the UK. Cockburn had been at the forefront of the fight against crime in the area through the neighbourhood watch patrols and had brought down the crime rate significantly with various crime-fighting initiatives.

Mvoti Neighbourhood Watch committee member and local resident, David Williams said Cockburn’s departure was a loss to the Durban North community.

“Grant has given tirelessly to the community and his departure is a massive loss for us all. He and I worked closely together as members of the watch with various projects and his passion for the community and his background in the security sector were assets to our fight against crime. He always went the extra mile and would be one of those first to offer his hand for those in need. He didn’t delegate his responsibilities and got involved with whatever we were doing as a watch and a community member,” he said.

Wayne Nettman has temporarily stepped in as chairman of Mvoti Neighbourhood Watch.

Cockburn expressed his sadness at stepping down and leaving the country.

“I always was one for making the difference like I have with Mvoti. For me rather than complain I would do something to make it work. I leave behind friends and family which has been very difficult,” he said.
