Howling good time in store at Durban Pug Olympics

The pug-centred event will take place at Crawford Schools, North Coast on Watson Highway in Westbrook.

THE Durban Pug Olympics will take place on Saturday, 7 September at Crawford Schools, North Coast on Watson Highway in Westbrook. All proceeds raised on the day will go toward Pug Rescue South Africa, a Benoni-based organisation dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of unwanted, abandoned and neglected pug dogs across the country.

Visitors to the event will enjoy various obstacle courses including a potato and spoon race which people can run with their pugs. There are also competitions, such as The Fastest Pug, which owners will enjoy running with their ‘furkids’. The best dressed pug competition is another highlight of the fun day out and visitors will be able to enjoy a range of food stalls as well.

La Lucia resident and Pug Rescue volunteer, Ravitha Maharaj is looking forward to the fun day of pug-centric fun.

“I love the social interaction that the pugs enjoy at the Pug Olympics. This is the third year I will be attending. I am taking all three of my pugs along: my foster , Puggles, and my two pugs, Pugsley and Pablo Escopug Singh,” she said.

I love pugs because they are affectionate lovable and absolutely adorable. They are constant companions without being loud or overwhelming. They are steadfastly loyal and will love you forever. They are also part of Chinese royalty so they are graceful and elegant lapdogs. They are the best cuddlers and once you own a pug you will be totally smitten,” added Maharaj.
