After reaching out on Facebook, the movement was born.

“A single ball of wool, a hook and an idea has snow balled into what people are calling a movement, a movement for good and for change in the world. We talk about knitting our lives together, knitting our nation together and more than that, knitting nations together,” said Stein.

The evening served to thank the crochet enthusiasts, affectionately known as ‘Knitwits,’ who contributed to the project by crocheting blankets to be donated to various orphanages, old age homes and informal settlements to keep South Africa Warm.
