Man hunt on for escaped Greenwood Park suspect

The suspect was expected to stand trial for a house breaking case, but escaped while receiving medical treatment at a Durban hospital.

GREENWOOD Park SAPS are searching for a house breaking suspect who escaped during a hospital visit on Saturday, 17 August.

Lee Richard Barrat (40) was awaiting trial after being arrested in connection with a house breaking in the Greenwood Park area.

Provincial spokesperson for the SAPS, Colonel Thembeka Mbele confirmed that Barrat was last seen at a Durban hospital where he was admitted for medical attention.

“While under consultation with medical staff, he managed to evade the police officer guarding him and escaped. He was awaiting trial after he was arrested for housebreaking at Greenwood Park. The escapee has many other housebreaking charges against him,” said Mbele.

Investigators believe Barrat may be in the vicinity of Durban North, Greenwood Park, Umbilo or Mandeni.
