Three arrested for theft in uMhlanga

The arrest was made at at The Crescent at Umhlanga Ridge on Thursday.

DURBAN North SAPS arrested three men who were allegedly using a remote jamming device preying on motorists in uMhlanga on Thursday.

According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the station, police along with members Excellerate Services nabbed three men at The Crescent at Umhlanga Ridge who were found in possession of several stolen items.

“We believe the two suspects arrested on foot were looking for targets to remote jam. They targeted a vehicle in the centre and stole a laptop. The third suspect, who acted as a getaway driver, was arrested while sitting in his vehicle.

“The suspects were found in possession of several stolen items, including a laptop and tablets. They were all charged with theft out of a motor vehicle and are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court next week,” he said.

Deokaran urged residents and visitors to the area not to leave their valuables in their vehicles.

“This type of crime is preventable. Items such as laptops, cameras, and phones are what the suspects most often look for. I urge residents to double-check they have locked their cars and not to leave valuables in their cars,” he said.

The Crescent at Umhlanga Ridge confirmed the incident had taken place.
