Hole in Redhill Clinic fence still a security concern

The clinic has had two incidents of theft in the last month which have been reported to Greenwood Park SAPS.

MEMBERS of the Redhill Clinic Committee have lamented the state of the Redhill Clinic which they say has fallen into disrepair. Since its inception, the clinic has been a boon to the communities of Avoca, Kenville, Effingham and Greenwood Park, providing comprehensive care to the community.

Committee members Lallie Singh and Rose Moodley say one of their biggest concerns for the clinic is the wall running parallel with Effingham Road. Last year the duo had reported that a portion of the fence, which is topped with razor wire, collapsed leaving the rear of the clinic exposed. At the time the residents and ward councillor implored the City to fix the issue.

However in the last few months, the gap in the wall has widened as more of the wall has broken away.

Criminals are using the hole in the fence to access the clinic and steal items.

According to Moodley, the clinic had two incidents of theft in the last month which was of great concern.

“I was told the thieves in that instance stole computers and other smaller items. We fear the thieves were targeting the clinic for drugs. As a committee we have committed to helping the Redhill Clinic with some of its needs but the fence is a much bigger project that we don’t have the funds to repair nor the expertise.

“I’m not only concerned for the patients but also the staff at the clinic because they are so exposed at the rear of the property. During working hours there are guards posted at the front gate but to have this large a gap in the fence in the back is ridiculous,” she said.
