AIDS awareness organisation, Woza Moya launched their ‘friends raising’ campaign at the Zeiler Jankey office in Durban North recently with a brunch time event attended by various stakeholders and supporters.
Co-founders for Woza Moya, Sue Hedden and Jane Nxasane both spoke at the event.
“We are hoping to create ever expanding groups of friends – connecting people, coming together to hear our story, to re-tell our story and to get involved in whatever way they can. It may be a monthly debit order or in many other ways,” said Hedden.

The funds raised through the campaign would help to further Woza Moya’s work in rural communities, added Nxasane.
“Woza Moya is a development project and an Aids project. We are working in a rural area so we can assist in developing people,” she said.
Hedden’s involvement in the project came after she began teaching formal adult literacy classes.
“I began to hear stories of people nursing dying family members all the time, and also weird and wonderful stories about why people were dying. I realised that we needed to do something. I contacted my old school friend who was the executive director of the Aids Foundation of South Africa to try and get some advice on how to respond. Unbeknown to me Woza Moya was being born,” she said.
