Don’t miss out on Honey Festival this weekend

The Honey Festival takes place at the Royal Agricultural Show Grounds in Pietermaritzburg on Sunday, 18 August from 9am to 3pm.

DURBAN North resident and member of the KwaZulu-Natal Bee Farmers Association, Janice van Eck, has urged the greater Durban community to support this weekend’s Honey Festival in Pietermaritzburg.

Van Eck, who has been keeping bees for the last 10 years will be doing a talk on keeping bees in a suburban environment.

“The festival is really a family affair and there’s so much to see on the day. There will be honey tasting, there will be honey products on sale and there’s plenty of children’s entertainment. I do normally sell honey with my business partner, Mandla Dlamini, but this year we’ve decided to give a talk on suburban beekeeping.

“Mandla will be doing his presentation in Zulu and I’ll be doing mine in English. It’s really an opportunity to learn about bees and beekeeping. We’ll also be chatting to visitors about the theft of hives around KZN which is having a detrimental effect on the bee farmers,” she said.
