NOTICE: I Heart Market is moving tomorrow

The market operators said they would need to come up with R42 000 to remain at their current location.

DURBAN’S popular I Heart Market is moving. In a shocking post shared on Facebook this morning the administrators of the I Heart Market page said the rent jumped by R41 792.

The market, operating at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, runs on the first Saturday of the month from 9am to 2pm and has become a popular shopping site in the city.

“In the process of negotiating a new lease, the rental went up from R6508 to R 48 300 with 12 days notice. There is no way possible that we are able to cover this additional rental and so we have moved,” the Facebook post read.

From tomorrow the market will be at Jonsson Kings Park said the administrators of the market. They also sent out an email to their subscribers where they said: “I Heart Market generates over R460 000 in income for the local economy and the loss of this income and the jobs created by the market would impact Durban’s creatives greatly. So it was important for us that we didn’t cancel the August market. The show must go on!”

The eThekwini Municipality was not immediately available for comment and directed the Northglen News to send an email query.
