Suspect arrested after uMhlanga rock-throwing incidents

The suspect was arrested at the Gateway taxi rank 30 minutes after hurling the rock at unsuspecting motorists.

DURBAN North SAPS arrested a man in connection with two rock throwing incidents in uMhlanga on Wednesday. Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the police station, said the suspect, who has been charged with malicious damage to property, has also been linked to muggings in the area.

“The first incident happened near the Gateway off-ramp on the M41 (northbound) just after 8am. The suspect hurled the brick at a Toyota Fortuna damaging the windscreen of the vehicle. The victim called police who were assisted by Marshall Security.

“The suspect was eventually arrested at the Gateway taxi rank less than half an hour later. As the suspect was being processed at the station, a second victim arrived to open a case saying the side door of his vehicle had also been struck with a brick. The second victim positively identified the man who was charged with malicious damage to property,” he said.

Kyle van Reenen of Crisis Medical, said they attended to the victim of the rock throwing incident who suffered minor injuries.
