Vandalised Cornubia cell tower sparks concerns

"The networks are being sabotaged," said activist, Yusuf Abramjee

VANDALISM of a Cornubia cell tower is a topic of concern for anti-crime activist, Yusuf Abramjee who took to social media to warn residents over the weekend.

“I have been highlighting the problem of cell phone tower battery theft over recent weeks. It’s a major problem. Hundreds of batteries are stolen each month. Millions of Rands are being lost. It appears syndicates are at work. Once stolen, these batteries are being re-sold. It is costing the industry millions of Rands and it is also causing disruptions.  These batteries are stolen from largely MTN and Vodacom towers,” he said.

Abramjee said it was necessary for the public to blow the whistle on these syndicates.

“Someone, somewhere, somehow knows something. Tip-offs work. I appeal to the public to pass on information. Let’s get them arrested,” he added.
