WARNING: Fake FaceApp carries virus

A hidden module in the fake app displays adverts on the device.

MORE than 500 people trying to download FaceApp have fallen prey to a fake app that has infected their devices with a virus called MobiDash. The app, that looks like FaceApp was first detected on 7 July said anti-virus company,  Kaspersky Internet Security (KIS).

KIS security researcher, Igor Golovin said the fake app is designed to trick users into thinking it is a certified version of FaceApp.

“The people behind MobiDash often hide their adware module under the guise of popular applications and services. This means that the activities of the fake version of FaceApp could intensify, especially if we are talking about hundreds of targets in just a few days. We urge users not to download applications from unofficial sources and to install security solutions on their devices to avoid any damage,” he added.
