Residents frustrated over La Lucia sinkhole

While warning tape and plastic cones were placed on one side of the circle no repairs have yet taken place which has frustrated many residents.

LA LUCIA residents have voiced their concern over a sinkhole on Armstrong Avenue which has not been fixed since April.

It is believed the heavy storms earlier this year led to the sewer pipe collapsing under the road surface causing a sinkhole.

While warning tape and plastic cones were placed on one side of the circle going towards Ridge Road which runs under the M4 bridge, no repairs have yet taken place which has frustrated many residents.

One resident, Marguerita Haarhof said she was at her wit’s end to try and get the municipality to fix the sinkhole which she fears may widen and trigger a road collapse.

“I’m not sure when this sinkhole will be repaired but it has been months now and no action has taken place. It’s extremely frustrating and disappointing. I’m worried about the structural integrity of the road. The sinkhole has widened since it formed months ago and I’m worried it may cause a larger section of road to collapse resulting in an even bigger problem.

“I’ve written to the municipality on the matter but I’ve had no feedback. There is no excuse for this sinkhole not to have been fixed in more than three months. I’ve also noticed another sinkhole, albeit a smaller one, formed at one of the flower beds near the entrance to the underground parking at La Lucia Mall which also needs tending to,” she said.
