Support St Margaret’s fundraiser for a new roof

"The leak is right over the alter, so when it rains, I stand under the drip as I am taking the service," said Reverend Tim McGowan.

AN exciting day out for the whole family is in store at an upcoming market that is back by popular demand. Following the success of their Night Market in October last year, St Margaret’ Church in Delaware Avenue, Durban North will host their Winter Market this Saturday, 13 July from 8:30am until 1.30pm.
Rector for the church, Reverend Tim McGowan said the market serves two main purposes.

“Firstly, we wanted to do something that would bring the local community together and also something that would help us with our fundraising,” he said.

McGowan explained that the church roof has been damaged since the massive Durban storm caused extensive damage across the city.
“The leak is right over the alter, so when it rains, I stand under the drip as I am taking the service,” he said.

The church is also hoping to fix their wall which collapsed during a storm about two years ago.
“We found ourselves in an insurance loophole and have been struggling to raise the funds to fix the wall ever since,” said McGowan.

With over 40 commercial traders setting up stalls at the market, and an extensive play area for children, the market affords parents the opportunity to shop while children play.

“We have really focused on our play area for children. There will be sand art, face painting and a jumping castle. There will be controlled access to the enclosed area and security. We will use a wrist band system as well with matching wrist bands for parents and children,” he said.
