Show your support with a yellow ribbon

The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is especially highlighted around the world on 26 June.

WEARING a yellow ribbon from 24 to 30 June will signify and promote an anti drug stance. This is especially highlighted on 26 June which is International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The international awareness day was declared in 1987 by the United Nations General Assembly as an expression of its determination to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse.

The South African government and its partners launched the National Drug Master Plan in 2013 as a collective effort towards a South Africa that is free of drug abuse.

South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (SANCA) offices will be handing our yellow ribbons free of charge for anyone who wants to show their support. The community is also encouraged to make their own ribbons by folding and pinning a strip of yellow ribbon. In Durban, SANCA operates from the Lulama Treatment Centre on 185 Vause Road in Berea.
