#SONA2019: What’s cutting on the red carpet

This year's SONA budget will be the cheapest in five years.

THE nation will be engrossed as the President of the country, Cyril Ramaphosa delivers his State of the Nation Address (SONA) this evening.

This year’s SONA has been billed as the cheapest in five years as the budget was chopped down by 47 per cent from 2018.

What’s more, there will be no gala dinner for politicians, a move implemented by Parliament in 2014.

With the serious matters out the way the Northglen News reviewed some of the best and worst dressed individuals who graced last year’s SONA red carpet.

This year we will miss Jeff Radebe and his wife Brigdette’s touch of African elegance as they adorned the red carpet in 2018.

The former minister of energy resigned in May this year after he did not make it to Ramaphosa’s cabinet.

Who can forget Phumzile Van Damme’s Black Panther inspired outfit.

The DA MP looked like she was ready to take on ‘Klow’ from the movie. Her floral gown accentuated “Okoye’s” fearless character.

Thembeka Ngcobo, the wife of Bheki Cele, the Minister of the Police (former Agriculture and Fisheries Deputy Minister) also wowed the public with her gown.

Nelson Mandela’s grandson, Mandla Mandela and his wife Rabia stole the show with their matching traditional outfits.

They were as equally adorable and matching at the 2017 SONA.

Norma Gigaba, wife of Former South African Minister of Home Affairs, Malusi Gigaba and Public protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane both looked striking in her gorgeous red gowns.

Minister of Small Business Development, Lindiwe Zulu spawned a few memes with her colorful outfit.

With SONA 2019 costing R500 000 less, fashion-gurus wait in anticipation to see what this year’s fashion trends have in stock for them.
