Elderly woman assaulted in La Lucia robbery

The suspects also made off with the homeowner's vehicle in the robbery.

DURBAN North police are still searching for an armed gang who stormed a home on Forest Drive on Saturday afternoon and assaulted the elderly homeowner.

According to the spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, Capt Raymond Deokaran, the resident in her 70s was tied up in the robbery for more than two hours while the gang ransacked the home.

“The suspects entered the house via the back door and assaulted the homeowner who is believed to be in her 70s. She was assaulted with a hockey stick before being bound with a plastic cord. Her mouth was also covered by the suspects. The victim was found by friends visiting her. The victim was lying on her stomach, face down with open wounds to her head.

“At this stage we are looking for two men involved in the robbery both believed to be in their 20s. The suspects made off with the homeowner’s Fiat 500, two cellular phones, a laptop, jewellery, and a safe that was mounted on the wall. The elderly resident was extremely traumatised in the incident,” he said.

No arrests have yet been made.
