Learners plummet off 5m bridge

Reports from the scene suggested that the learners were engaged in a heated altercation that led to them falling from the bridge to the roadway below.

Two school-boys, allegedly involved in an altercation, plummeted some five metres off a bridge on Station Valley Road in Kenville at approximately 12:15pm today.

Spokesperson for Crisis Medical, Kyle Van Reenen said paramedics arrived at the scene to find the learners, two boys aged between 14 and 15 years old, had sustained serious injuries after the fall.

“The two boys were found lying on the roadway having sustained serious head injuries. Advanced and intermediate life support interventions were needed to stabilise them before they were placed onto specialised stretchers used for the treatment for suspected neck and spinal cord injuries. |They were then transported to nearby Addington Hospital,” said Van Reenen.

Van Reenen said the events leading up to the incident are speculative at this stage. “Reports from the scene suggested that the learners were engaged in an altercation that led to them falling from the bridge to the roadway below,” he said.

SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.
