VIDEO: Get your Greek on!

In June the Blythedale Coastal Adventure Market will play host to the Greek Fest 2019.

It’s almost a new month! With a new month comes a new adventure. An adventure that entertains the mind and fills the stomach with excellent food (and maybe a drop or two of a choice beverage).

Last month the food was Mexican, and the drink was tequila. This month, prepare to indulge yourself in some remarkable Greek cuisine and entertainment. It may not be Greece, but the beach up at Blythedale offers magisterial views and a great atmosphere to boot.

On Sunday the 2nd of June, the next edition of the Blythedale Coastal Adventure Market takes place.

The Market plays host to Greek Fest 2019, where you and your family and friends can be “Greek for the Day”. Or, if you already happen to be Greek, come out and celebrate your wonderful culture in style.

Where: Blythedale Coastal Estate

New additions to last month’s market included even more adventure – there were more inflatables than ever before. Kids will love the line-up of waterslides and jumping castles (more like jumping palaces), that are coming this month.

The waterslide isn’t off limits to adults either. Last month there were more than a few brave parents who worked up the Dutch courage to take a tube ride down the hill. Adding to the adventure were guided quad bike tours along the dirt roads that wind their way through the surrounding forest and along the picturesque stretch of beach.

This month they’re available for R150 each for a 15-minute guided tour, with space on each tour for six people. This is an exciting adventure for marketgoers of all ages.

Adding to the Mediterranean flavour will be Luthuli Oysters (Pty) Ltd. The owner, Benedict Luthuli, was spotted diving for oysters off the shores of Blythedale Coastal Estate by two of the Market organisers.

That was the day before last month’s edition, the Mexican Fiesta Cinco de Mayo. He enjoyed a productive time, as he sold every single one of his fresh oysters. On Sunday the 2nd of June, he’s promised to bring more.

These are procured fresh the day before he sells them. They’re sold fresh from the tank on the day. Benedict doesn’t believe in doing things by half measures. He said, “Many of these places you buy oysters have them on ice for a few days before they sell them. I sell mine fresh from the tank. Customers tell me they can taste the difference. It makes me so proud when people say these nice things, because we’re a local family business from the North Coast.”

Benedict (with the help of his family) has operated his small business for more than five years. Working on average 24 days per month during season, they’ve been diving off Zinkwazi, but apparently the oysters are now too small there to meet the strict, self-imposed standards of quality of Luthuli Oysters (Pty) Ltd.

They’ve moved their procurement closer to Ballito. Benedict and his family are offering a special promotion at Greek Fest 2019. Served with or without champagne, the price is set at R15 per oyster, or R75 for six.

This is another great way to support local business. Luthuli Oysters join hundreds of local businesses that have called the Blythedale Coastal Adventure Market home. BCAM prides itself on partnerships with local businesses, and this is the latest success story.
