Knife-wielding attacker nabbed with stolen loot

The suspect has been linked to several housebreakings in the uMhlanga area.

HOURS after a 73-year-old man was found strangled at his Durban North, an elderly uMhlanga couple were the victims of a knife-wielding man who forced his way into their home.

According to Marshall Security’s Kyle Van Reenen, the Marine Drive couple were held up at knife-point while the suspect demanded cell phones, jewellery and other items before fleeing on foot in an unknown direction.

The man had forced entry through a sliding door before confronting the elderly homeowners.

“Information relating to the stolen cell phone was relayed to our Emergency Contact Centre and with the assistance of the South African Police Services, a bus was brought to a stop on A search of the commuters was conducted resulting in a male being found in possession of the stolen cell phone and jewellery. The man was confirmed to be the same suspect who confronted the elderly uMhlanga couple earlier,” said Van Reenen.

The suspect was remanded into the custody of the South African Police Services for further investigation and processing.

He added that further information revealed the man to be linked to several housebreakings in the uMhlanga area of late.
