VIDEO: Gear up for handcycling event at Moses Mabhida

The Achilles Hope and Possibility Handcycle Relay Race will take place over a 24-hour period, with participants selecting their shifts at registration.

DURBAN North resident, Gords Reid has urged residents to come out and support Achilles Hope and Possibility Handcycle Relay Race hosted on 25 and 26 May from 10am to 10am, at Moses Mabhida Stadium’s People’s Park.

The event is a fundraising event in support of Ethembeni School and Achilles South Africa.

Reid who is spearheading the event in collaboration with the Moses Mabhida Stadium said added the proposed annual relay race seeks to highlight the issues faced by disabled athletes and communities, particularly in and around KwaZulu-Natal.

The event is to support a number of initiatives intended at helping disabled athletes

“Through the race, we hope to initiate and develop the initial Achilles South Africa provincial clubs. Achilles South Africa helps people with all types of disabilities to participate in mainstream running and cycling events. Our other aim for the event is to highlight a key need in Durban – an improvement of sports and similar facilities for the disabled members of our larger communities. We’d like to encourage an inclusive approach, whereby a disabled child-friendly playground could be constructed at Moses Mabhida Stadium’s People’s Park, and support other initiatives that fall within the realm of supporting disabled children,” he explained.
