Durban North pool walls get a splash of colour

The pools walls have been totally transformed thanks to a local artist and Enviro Fixers Durban North.

EIGHT panels around the Durban North swimming pool have had an extreme makeover thanks to local artist, Giffy Duminy and Enviro-Fixers-Durban North.

The 25-year-old was commissioned by Enviro Fixers-Durban North, who are a group of people uplifting and beautifying Durban North. The group also safeguards the environment by replacing alien invader plants with indigenous plants.

What is more the walls, which were previously covered with graffiti tags have all been painted grey by the group.

The panels Duminy painted feature krantz aloes, which are common to KwaZulu-Natal and a male and female Amethyst sunbird who share a symbiotic relationship with the aloes.

Artist Giffy Duminy shows off his impressive mural done on the walls around the Durban North swimming pool recently. The 25-year-old was commissioned to the project by Enviro Fixers-Durban North.”I love the colours on the panels and I think the aloes and the sunbirds pair off really nicely. The sunbirds pollinate the flowers on the aloe and feed off the nectar, so they promote the growth of each other and that’s what I wanted to show. For the krantz aloe, deep orange is the most common colour and I think it looks amazing with the grey walls.

“All thanks must go to the Enviro Fixers who are making big strides to beautify Durban North. I completed this project over a few days as the rain really hampered my progress but the reactions from the community have been extremely positive which makes it all worth it,” he said.
