Newton plays Tarryn, a saltwater girl who loves the beach and encourages the film’s protagonist, Sunitha Patel (Carishma Basday) to pursue her dream to surf.
“The only thing Tarryn and myself don’t have in common is that she loves the beach and I’m not the biggest fan, but our similarities lie in that we both enjoy a good ‘selfie’ and laugh with our girlfriends and we support our friends in whatever they do,” said Newton.
While Newton has been involved in the film scene, this role has been a milestone for her.

“I’ve been an extra in a couple of movies shot in and around Durban, but this is the first where I actually have dialogue and my character has a name and not just ‘girl walking down street’. I had and still have been working on commercials and modelling here and there and I’m currently an assistant online editor for the ETV series Imbewu – The Seed where I do colour grading and sound mixing,” she added.
