Parkhill is rolling in cash for a good cause

Organisers said that R12 000 was raised on the day thanks to participants and sponsors. The funds will be evenly split between Intshisekelo Secondary School and CHOC Children's Cancer Foundation.

QUEEN bees and blind mice were among the comical characters at the Parkhill Bowling Club on Saturday, 2 March for Amazebowls, a day of friendly competition and fundraising. Teams dressed up in creative costumes before taking to the green

Co-organiser, Angela Walters said the aim of the event was to raise as much funds as possible and to have fun.

“This is the second time we are hosting this event. It has definitely gotten more popular since last year. We have had more teams enter,” she said.

Amazebowls was the brain child of co-organiser, Gavin Skevington.

“The original idea was mine, but Angela has jumped on board and helped to grow the event. We hope to grow the annual bowls event and introduce something new later this year,” said Skevington.

Kathy Nugent, who participated in the fun day said the cause was important to her team.

“We are all teachers and children are close to our hearts. We want to be part of ensuring that their future is bright,” she said.

Another participant, Kerriden Clayton, said the day was full of fun.

“We are here to support the fundraiser. I don’t know how to play bowls, but it is fun and easy- anyone can do it,” added Clayton.
