Four arrested near Glen Anil after shootout

One of the suspects involved in the high-speed chase and shootout sustained a gunshot wound to his leg.

FOUR suspects were arrested on Thursday evening after a high-speed chase and shootout ended on the R102 near Glen Anil. Officers from the Durban Flying Squad were involved in a crime prevention  operation in the Greenwood Park area when they received a positive tracker signal for a hijacked vehicle.

SAPS provincial spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said when police officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspects sped off towards R102 Road near Glen Anil.

“Police officers gave chase and a shootout ensued. Members of the Flying Squad and officers from the Inanda Cluster were able to bring the suspect’s vehicle to a halt. Two suspects were immediately arrested and two more were arrested hiding in bushes.

“One of the suspects sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. The suspects were searched and found in possession of suspected stolen cell phones and an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The vehicle used by the suspects was hijacked in Greenwood Park. The arrested suspects aged between 20 and 22 were charged with possession of suspected stolen property, attempted murder, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition,” Zwane said.

The four suspects are expected to appear in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court next week.
