IN the midst of part of Durban being rocked by land invasions, the City has announced that it will spend an additional R199 million to purchase land.
Waves of land invasions have rocked the communities of Sherwood, Sydenham, Cato Crest, and Spence Road in Clare Estate in recent weeks.
In a statement they said the move was part of the eThekwini Municipality’s strategic strategy to eliminate informal settlements.

In a statement they said the amount was approved as part of the Adjustment Budget for the 2018/19 financial year at an Executive Committee meeting held yesterday, 26 February.
“This is an addition to the R25 million that has already been spent this financial year by the Human Settlements Unit to purchase land in a bid to eradicate informal settlements and fast track service delivery in communities,” the statement read.
