Armed gang intercepts patron at North Coast Road bank

Two suspects jumped out of a car and pointed firearms at the victim. They caught him before he went inside the bank.

A GANG of armed robbers got away with about R25 000 after they accosted a man at gunpoint as he was heading into a bank on North Coast Road to make a deposit on Monday, 25 February at 12:45pm.

Communications officer for the Greenwood Park SAPS, Sergeant Vincent Mthembu said that the victim was approached by two men wearing balaclavas.

“Two suspects jumped out of a car and pointed firearms at him, they caught him before he got inside the bank. The rest of the suspects remained in the car. They were all wearing balaclavas. A case of armed robbery was opened and is being investigated at the Greenwood Park SAPS,” said Mthembu.

Kyle van Reenen, spokesman for Marshall Security, said they were called to the scene after the robbery had occurred.

“We advise the community to be aware of their surroundings when approaching a bank. Make sure no one is following you and look out for anything suspicious. If you notice a vehicle or person following you, rather drive past the bank and call Marshall Security for assistance,” said van Reenen.

There were no injuries sustained during the robbery. The suspects remain at large. Community members are requested to report any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects on Crime Stop: 0860010111.
