Weatherman warns learners to avoid sport today

Learners are advised to avoid sport today as temperatures are expected to climb steadily.

AS the South African Weather Services (SAWS) predicts extremely hot conditions in KwaZulu-Natal today, Julius Mahlangu, a SAWS forecaster said that school learners should take extra precautions.

“It is not advisable for school learners to play sport today,” said Mahlangu.

“We have an advisory for KwaZulu-Natal for the coastal areas an adjacent interior for hot and humid weather which may pose uncomfortable conditions,” added Mahlangu.

According to Mahlangu conditions will lessen by tomorrow.

“It is not a heatwave, it is just hot weather conditions today. Tomorrow will be warm and we predict partly cloudy to cloudy conditions. The temperature tomorrow will be nice and warm,” said Mahlangu.

Kyle van Reenen, spokesman for Crisis Medical said that residents should stay hydrated.
“Drink lots of water. Stay in shaded and well ventilated areas. Wear hats and sunscreen if you are to go outside. Keep a close eye on children, sick or elderly persons. Remember to ensure your furbabies are kept well hydrated and out of the sun,” said van Reenen.

Mahlangu added that thunder showers are predicted for the Western part of the province while Durban North and Umhlanga can expect light evening showers. Temperatures are expected to climb above 30 degrees.
