Be part of free ‘pet-centric’ day

Many pet owners are not aware of the facilities available to them in the Durban North area, say organisers.

PET lovers are in for a treat as the Durban North Animal Wellness Day is set to take place on Saturday, 2 March from 10am until 2pm at the Action in Autism School Hall, 105 Haig Road. The free event offers an informative talk, micro-chipping, dog grooming and more.

Organisers and animal lovers Kate Coetzee and Andy Ording planned the pet-centric day to help inform pet owners about the various facilities available to them.

“We came up with the idea of an animal wellness day to let people know who is available in the Durban North Area in terms of animal wellness. For example, there is a rehabilitation facility for dogs with injuries that few people know about,” said Coetzee.

Guest speaker for the day is pet-nutrition blogger, Venusha Moodley-Nirmal who holds a degree in micro biology and cellular biology.

“My talk will help people extend the life span of their pet through natural nutrition. The oldest dog currently is 30 years because of this ancestral diet. Natural fresh foods, probiotics and leafy greens,” said Moodley-Nirmal.

The nutritional expert said she is excited to share her knowledge in her slot at 11am.

“People think that dogs get bacterial contamination or worms from natural foods but that is not the case as they are designed to consume natural food. When dogs consume prey in the wild they consume the digestional tract of their prey which contains vegetable matter. The natural diet mimicks this – it consists of 80 per cent muscle meat, 10 per cent bone 10 per cent organ and 5 per cent vegetable matter as an added supplement,” she said.

Coetzee said that visitors can bring their ‘furkids’ along as long as they are on leads and socialised.
