“I did my first Cape Argus as it was called in 1986. I was the chairman of the East Coast Pedal Power Association and at the time a few of the members were going to Cape Town to compete in the event. I decided that I too should cycle the race to set a good example. I’ve even had the privilege of having riding the event with two of my sons. The camaraderie among the cyclists is special and I think the achievement of completing such a gruelling race is also something I enjoy,” the 70-year-old explained.

Quevauvilliers said he hoped to inspire others to cycle the event and to get into the sport of cycling.

“Even if it is just about keeping fit and cycling short distances I encourage people to get involved. I grew up in Mauritius and my father was a champion cyclists, as was one of my brothers, so they fostered a love for cycling within me and I’ve never looked back since getting on my first bike,” he said.
